Last year, I participated in my first plein air event, Georgetown Plein Air, and I was eager to return this year! My experience last year was wonderful; some artists noticed that I was feeling out of my element at the show and welcomed me into their group. I had the opportunity to reconnect with them and thank them for their kindness. This year, I also had the pleasure of paying it forward, as a good friend joined me for her first plein air show. Community has been a vital part of these events, and I always encourage those who mention it’s their first time; there were quite a few newcomers this time!

For my two paintings, I chose a beautiful waterfall spot right off Guanella Pass Road—you can read my field notes about that painting here→

I also painted a sunny alpine scene from the top of Guanella Pass. Having visited that area several times, I have always loved the hills opposite Mt. Bierstadt, and I finally decided to capture them on canvas. Feild notes also here→

The Georgetown Cultural Arts Program (GCAP) is pleased to present our ninth annual Plein Air event in vintage, picturesque Georgetown, Colorado. Just 45 minutes west of Denver along I-70 at 8,500 ft elevation, and part of the Georgetown-Silver Plume National Landmark Historic District, Georgetown is a charming town of colorful Victorian buildings ringed by mountain views, and has long been a favorite of artists. Includes Quick Draw in historic downtown. Registration and exhibition will be held at Georgetown Old School, a recently restored 1874 schoolhouse, at 809 Taos Street. Join us for this painting event in the summer mountain air!
