Umwelt describes the way each of us experiences the world through our own senses. My artwork begins in my own umwelt and is then viewed through yours. That overlap of perspectives is what interests me. At its best, it holds a truth and a connection that words alone could never capture.

Painting outdoors puts me directly in what inspires me, and the shifting scene demands honesty to both the landscape and to what I bring to it. I walk until I find that unmistakable glimmer in a moment that feels right and worth recording.

Each painting starts with my way of seeing, but it feels complete only when the right viewer brings their own perspective to it.
