Reno Riverwalk

Pastel | Plein Air | 5x7”

A pastel study completed during the 2025 Plein Air Convention and Expo in Reno, Nevada, depicting a view of the Truckee River from downtown Reno’s riverwalk.

  • This day was special because it was my very first group paint-out. Paint-outs are the highlights of the Plein Air Convention. During the week, we spent our mornings learning and making friends. There were demonstrations by world-class artists, and in the afternoons, we all traveled together to paint outdoors. This first paint out was in downtown Reno on the riverwalk. I arrived a little early to secure a good spot. Locals were friendly and interested. I didn't take many photos, but what made the experience truly special was being surrounded by hundreds of other artists, all painting together. The artists near me were both friendly and talented. I was grateful to enjoy this hobby in the company of others, as it has always been a very solo practice for me. I didn’t realize what I had been missing until now; the experience was priceless and something I will cherish forever.

    • Painting somewhere out of my usual element. This is much more urban than I’m used to

    • Free parking and friendly locals. Reno is a lovely town/city!

    • Chatting with the artists around me and enjoying our shared passion. It was also nice to be quiet together as we settled into the focus of making.

    • I received positive feedback from very admirable faculty artists

    • I secured a shade spot
