Confetti Tree #1

Pastel | 8x8”

A plein air painting finished in the studio

Availible

  • This painting started as a plein-air study, but I completely reworked it in the studio. Some ideas take time to develop, and in this work, I explored different pigments qualities in relation to one another and in changing environments. I have long compared fall foliage to confetti. I wanted to create a painting that captures the essence of autumn’s exuberance. While working on this painting I purposely chose to often switch my setting between low light and bright studio lighting. This was to further my understanding of the luminosities of different pigments. My goal was to make a painting that still looked good in a dimly lit room and held surprises in it, which reveal themselves the closer you get.
