The forecast heading into my time in woodland park was something like 75% chance of rain everyday, and I knew I wanted to produce at least three paintings that I would be happy with for the event.
Last year I participated in Peak Art Adventure, and all year I’ve been remembering those clouds I saw. They were like something straight out of fiction. I did paint them last year, but I didn’t commit to clouds as the subject, they were more accessory to the land below them. With that rain forecast I had a feeling i would see great clouds there again. I live very close to the manufacturers of some of the best pastels, terry ludwig, and on my way out of town I stopped in to pick out cloud colors. I had this vision very early on, and in my second day in town I found a perfect spot. It was a generous sized dirt pull-off and I got to work from my open hatch. This was a luxury, to have shade and windblocking.
